Bob Gordon, former Treasurer of the City of Washington (26 years), past President of ILMTA (1989-1990), and past Board member of the ASSN of Public Treasurers of US and Canada (1991), passed away November 24 after a courageous battle with ALS. His memorial website and obituary information is available at www.deitersfuneralhome.com.
In his spare time, Bob was also an active member of various professional organizations including the AICPA, IL CPAS, Illinois Municipal Treasurer's ASSN (President 1989-90), and the ASSN of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (International President 1991). Throughout his years of service, he served on various committees and boards of each organization.
Bob was an enthusiastic storyteller and rarely let all the facts get in the way of a good tale. He may have played golf by strict guidelines but a good story was often enhanced for our listening pleasure. He was known to frequent several local establishments where he spun his yarns, sang a bit of Danny Boy and made sure the drinks were filled to the top of the glass. Bob's gregarious personality will be missed by many. Heaven is sure to be even more fun upon his arrival.
